I'd argue that it depends more on macro trends rather than just the upcoming mainnet launches themselves. So not necessarily.

People point to ICX (Icon)'s pump and dump surrounding its mainnet launch, but I think a lot of other factors are involved and I don't think it's wise to try to "time" the market.

Many people do indeed try to buy the hype, and sell the news. Which makes sense because many times, the news isn't what it was all hyped up to be. So that's why we do notice many dumps for projects after their mainnets are launched. (however not a guarantee that it will happen)

Also if you got into a coin during ICO phase, and the price has risen quite a bit before mainnet launch date, then it would be wise to protect those profits - at least a bit. That's why you see traders/investors selling around the mainnet time.

So some of my personal strategies:
1) If you have your eye on a coin, I would Dollar Cost Average DCA - buy a little before mainnet, a little bit around the actual launch, and a little bit afterwards. That way you can average out your risk if something goes wrong with the token swap or if they mainnet doesn't work as promised.
2) I would send some coins to exchanges and set stop loss orders. That is if you already bought the coin a while back and are worried about events surrounding the launch. That way you can be guaranteed to see some of the profits that you already made on a particular coin/project.

Let me know your thoughts? How are yall approaching all of these exciting upcoming mainnet launches?

I believe it has happened sometimes in the past, but the dumps are also not uncommon after launch. Buy the rumor, sell the news is what a lot try to pull off, but imo too it is risky business, and will probably in many instances not play out well. I like your approach of cost average in, which makes already a lot of sense in general but especially around major events like mainnet launches. It will be exciting weeks for sure, not only from the price perspective, but also from technological perspective if those mainnets indeed become stable and bug free, which always remains to be seen how a new protocol behaves in the real world.

Curious to see how it goes with EOS though, price is jumping again last minute. Big difference though is that the flooding of tokens through ICO has stopped, so demand will now be directed to exchanges only. AND as long as there is no stable mainnet, exchanges can only trade the tokens they have....no additional deposits possible from other wallets. So this launch might have another effect on the price than we are used to.....will b interesting
